Terms of use
Last updated 22 October 2026. By using Self Assessment Helper you agree to these terms. They're short, so please read them.
What this site is
Self Assessment Helper is a free tool, run by an individual in the UK. It turns your answers into estimated figures for the UK Self Assessment tax return, and gives general guidance about the return. It is not tax or financial advice, and using it doesn't create a professional relationship with us. We're not HMRC or GOV.UK and have no connection with them.
Check before you rely on it
- Results are worked out automatically from what you enter. They can be wrong, out of date or incomplete, and the calculator doesn't cover every situation (see the About page for what's not included).
- You're responsible for your own tax return. Check every figure before you submit, and compare our estimate with HMRC's own calculation, shown before you submit.
- If you're unsure, ask HMRC or a qualified accountant or tax adviser.
- We never ask for your HMRC or Government Gateway login. You file your return yourself on GOV.UK.
Our liability
- The site is provided free and "as is". We don't promise it will always be available, accurate or free of errors.
- As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss or damage arising from using the site or relying on its results. That includes tax, interest, penalties, lost refunds or adviser fees.
- If we are found liable despite this, our total liability to you is limited to £100.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited under the law of England and Wales.
Using the site fairly
- Don't misuse the site: no attempts to break it, overload it, copy it wholesale or scrape it with automated tools.
- The site, its design, text and code belong to us. Tax rates and forms are HMRC's and GOV.UK's, used under the Open Government Licence.
Ads and other sites
The site is paid for by ads from Google. We don't control the ads or the sites they link to. Links to other websites, including GOV.UK, are there for convenience, and we're not responsible for their content. See Advertising and cookies for how ads and cookies work.
Changes
We may change the site or these terms at any time. Tax figures are updated when GOV.UK publishes changes. The date at the top shows when these terms last changed.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also be able to bring proceedings in your local courts.
